Once an annual event, the Schools Yorkshire Tour encouraged school children to explore their local area by bike. The event took place over 3-4 weeks, in June, with over 100 Yorkshire schools getting involved. Schools' transported the 'BATON' over their leg passing it on to the next school as a continuous relay.
In Bradford area Bike Futures organised the stages with Bradford Council, designing routes, organising schools and doing the Risk Assessments.
Often schools taking part had benefited from Bikeability Training - a free national scheme to teach Year 5 & 6 how to safely ride on local roads
A School to School Cycle Tour can be an excellent way to generate positive media coverage for Active Travel and school engagement, often with articles in local press and on local television.
Often a whole school comes out to celebrate the arrival of the baton and the start of it's next leg.
